January 26, 2016

There has been much media coverage and attention paid in recent months
regarding the levels of lead in public drinking water, particularly in the Flint, Michigan water system.  And, just this week an alert was issued for customers of the
Sebring Village Water Treatment Plant, near Youngstown, Ohio.

Here are a few facts about our drinking water:

  • Lead and copper in drinking water are primarily the result of
old water lines in a customer's home.  In some cases,
slightly acidic water can leach the lead and copper out of the water lines.
  • Typically, acidic source waters are from lakes and rivers.
Our source water is from a neutral groundwater source.
  • Our historical testing results for lead and copper, tested at consumers taps,
    have been very low.
  • Our sytem is newer than most and
we do not have any distribution lines that contain lead or copper
    .
  • We add an EPA approved ortho-poly phosphate to our water,
which is a corrosion inhibitor and minimizes any leaching of metals
    from our consumers water lines.
  • Additional information regarding lead can be found
in the "Common Water Quality Concerns" article under the "District News" tab.
  • A full report on our water quality can be found in the District's Consumer Confidence Report.  Please click on the "Water System" tab above to review these annual reports.

The District is committed to
providing quality and environmentally compliant water
to all current and future District customers.

If you have any questions or concerns about your water quality, please contact our office at 740-927-0410 or customerservice@swlcws.com .
