The Southwest Licking Community Water and Sewer District
would like to welcome you to our official website.

This website is to provide another vehicle of communication
and exchange of valuable information between
the District, our customers, and the public.

The District will begin filling the new Cleveland Road water tower this week.
The pressure required to fill that tower
will cause some discoloration of the water provided to the following areas
north of SR16/E. Broad Street:

Cleveland Road
Mink Street
Summit Road
Summit Station
Glenbrook Subdivision

Discoloration can be anticipated through the end of the week.
Your water will be safe to use,
however laundry should be avoided until the water clears.

The District is experiencing increased call volume regarding possible frozen water service lines.
If you turn on a faucet and only get a trickle or no water at all, suspect a frozen pipe.
Due to variable line materials, configurations, and maintenance thereof,
the District does not assume any responsibility for interior service lines.
Please contact a licensed plumber or building professional to address your particular situation.

For general winterization tips, see SWLCWSD News, Stewardship Tips.

The following information is presented to address the prevention and protection of water service lines in general:

Water supply lines that run against exterior walls that have little or no insulation are especially subject to freezing;
pipes in interior areas like basements and crawl spaces, attics, garages, kitchens and bathroom cabinets
where heated air circulates less are also susceptilbe.

Consider installing additional insulation around pipes in these areas.
Many products are available at local hardware and building supply retailers.
Be sure to follow manufacturer's instructions for installation and use of these products.

When the weather is very cold outside, open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors
to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing and allow the faucet to drip ~
running water through the pipe, even at a trickle, helps prevent pipes from freezing.

DO NOT use an open flame or blowtorch at any time in an attempt to thaw a frozen water line.

Keep the faucet open ~ as the frozen area begins to thaw, water will begin to flow
and the running water will help melt more ice in the pipe.
Apply heat to the pipe using an electric blow dryer, portable heater or towels soaked in hot water.
NEVER heat the pipe any warmer than you can comfortably tolerate holding the pipe bare handed.

Again, these are general guidelines.
You should contact a licensed plumber or building professional with specific concerns
regarding your home's interior service lines.
